Needs a home

We have seen this dog for the past three or four days roaming in our neighborhood, but were unable to lure him over to us Saturday morning. He finally gave in and accepted our help. He was hungry and thirsty, and is very dirty. Aside from a minor limp (which he did not have a few days ago), and the road rash and scars on his ears, he appears to be fairly healthy. Once he had eaten, he really came around and seems to have a very friendly disposition. He knows how to "kiss," walked well on the leash, and was very comfortable jumping into our car to drive him over to a friend's house to watch him until we get home.
He had a collar on, but does not have a license or any identification tags. We are going to take him to our vet to see if he has a microchip in an effort to try and find his owner, but we think that he was dumped.
Based on the condition of his teeth, he seems pretty young. I would say 3-1/2 years old or less. He may be a mix between a Mastiff and a Chow (Black stripe on tongue) or a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Chow, and although he is skinny now at about 70 lbs, he probably weighs between 80 and 85lbs. when he has had regular meals. That's just my hypothesis though.
I don't want to just give him up to the pound as he is a sweetheart and deserves to be nourished and given a good home. We already have three dogs (two are rescues), so we cannot keep him.
